The Mussy-sur-Seine Maquis Museum in the Aube département perpetuates the memory of the Mussy-Grancey Maquis resistance fighters in the Seine and Ource Valleys. The Mussy-sur-Seine Maquis Museum in the Aube département was founded in 1967 by the "Resistance Museum" charitable association. The aim is to perpetuate the memory of the members of the Resistance, who fought in June 1944 in the Mussy-Grancey Maquis, based in the forested hills between the Seine and Ource valleys. This Maquis unit, commanded by Emile Alagiraude, alias Montcalm, brought together 200 FFI fighters in June 1944 at the time of the Normandy landings, and almost 1,200 by the end of July. The Mussy-sur-Seine Resistance Museum was established in buildings attached to the former gendarmerie, made available to the Friendly association of secret army volunteer fighters and the Mussy-Grancey Maquis Remembrance Committee. The museum was inaugurated by Robert Galley on 23rd May 1971, attended by the Prefect of the Aube département and Mussy and Bar sur Seine Councillors.
The collections on public display in the museum include equipment, clothing worn by deportees, photographs, Resistance posters, as well as flags from Montcalm's secret army and the 131st Infantry Regiment. This museum, which is supported by the Departmental Service of the National Veterans' Office and the Aube academic Inspectorate, is suitable for all audiences and welcomes school parties.
